We invite you to the Dizajn BWA Wrocław gallery for sound experiment workshops, during which we will build simple speakers.
Canti Spazializzati is a series of workshops and concerts devoted to the theories and practices of experimental music, focusing on the concepts of spatializing sound compositions created for multi-channel sound systems. For the third workshop, we invite participants to the Dizajn BWA Wrocław gallery, where the Cover awArts 2018 Wro exhibition – the best album covers – will be presented. We put away our computer screens and enter the world of analog electronics. As Canti Spazializzati, we believe that a sound artist’s toolkit should include at least a basic knowledge of sound physics, synthesis, and sound reproduction devices, says curator Daniel Brożek. The aim of the workshop will be to demystify the broadly understood concept of “equipment” through a DIY approach to the construction of a simple but original sound object. Our hope is that participants will deepen their understanding of the tools they use in their artistic practice, and perhaps even continue to develop and participate in the scene, adds the curator.
Workshop participants will leave the meeting with a simple speaker and sound source they have built themselves and, most importantly, an understanding of how these devices work. We will also present methods, sources, and communities that can help in developing newly acquired knowledge. We emphasize that no scientific knowledge is required to participate.
The aim of the workshop is to gain intuition and practical skills. There will simply not be enough time to introduce and explain mathematical descriptions.
All workshop participants will have access to Żyjnia, a space in the gallery that offers a respite in the city center on a daily basis and is also a venue for events organized as part of the institution’s educational and social program.
