The creators of the legendary multi-channel sound system known in experimental music circles, Piotr Ceglarek and Jan Dybała (Biuro Dźwięku Katowice), will introduce us to the basics of loudspeaker construction and the design of multi-channel sound installations. They will share over 10 years of experience gained while developing BDK, talk about their working methods, and show how to begin your own journey into building loudspeakers.
During the workshop, participants will gain the knowledge necessary to independently design and build multi-speaker sound installations for the ambisonic format.

Piotr Ceglarek and Jan Dybała are sound artists and educators affiliated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In 2014, together with Zuzanna Waltoś, they founded Biuro Dźwięku Katowice, a platform for sound experiments, workshops, interventions in public space, and residency programs that continues to operate today.
Within this initiative, they develop multi-channel sound systems—from quadraphonic setups to the current Biuro Dźwięku Sound System 2.0, a hybrid system combining the concept of a classical acousmonium with ambisonics. The system premiered at the Sanatorium Dźwięku Festival in 2022 and has remained an integral part of its program.
Their experience with multi-channel sound is also used in the creation of site-specific installations, including projects for the exhibition “Landscapes of Leisure” presented at the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, at Expo 2020 in Dubai, and in the first audio-sphere project in Poland designed for a hospital ward in Tychy.
They are also co-creators of the cybernetic instrument Tonarium, operating in a 36-channel immersive sound environment, which they helped implement at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice in collaboration with the Soundscape Foundation.
Alongside this work, they have performed dozens of improvised concerts, including at Unsound Festival and Nachtdigital (DE). They also co-created the audiovisual trio MTV: Modulartelevision.

Canti Spazializzati
Running since 2018, this workshop-concert series is dedicated to the theories and practices of experimental music, focusing on concepts of spatializing sound compositions created for multi-channel sound systems. The project combines the presentation of new musical works with opportunities for artists to develop the spatial aspects of their compositions and creates a platform for collaboration between young musicians, composers, and sound artists.
