VR2OSC. Workshops for digital musicians devoted to communication between interactive VR environments and sound generators.
As part of the Canti Spazializzati Sound Lab workshops in 2021, we will continue our work on the creation of acoustic spaces in sound compositions. Based on our experience in working with spatial sound (ambisonia, binaural), we will look at the possibilities of virtual/extended reality (VR/XR) environments in terms of acoustic modeling. Techniques for shaping acoustics have traditionally been available to architects. In the tradition of sound art, which treats sound as a function of the space in which it propagates, the artist usually works with existing acoustics. VR/XR techniques make it possible to define acoustic parameters in the process of creating space, thus broadening the spectrum of compositional decisions in the hands of sound artists. During the workshop, we will focus on techniques for using VR in the process of working on spatial compositions.
During this year’s second meeting, which will last several hours, we will combine an original VR installation based on WebXR technology with your sound generation software. We will use the OSC protocol for this purpose. We will check how and what signals sent from virtual reality are best suited to creating sound space in real reality. We will create dynamic compositions controlled by movement and interaction. VR goggles and the world they present will become an experimental audio controller in our hands.
